I went to see Si Scott do a talk last night for an AIGA New York event. He basically just showed his work and talked about it a little bit and then answered a few questions. It was funny because I think a lot of people really wanted to know where his inspiration comes from. He really didn’t have an answer other than, “I just started doing it because I liked it and then people wanted me to do it more.” I think that is probably the most influential thing that I heard last night. It was yet another confirmation that the “DO WHAT YOU LOVE UNTIL YOU MAKE A LIVING FROM IT” system works. I first heard that from Paul Jerde several years ago and thought he was crazy at first but the more I put it into practice, the more I see that it is the way to go.

A crazy tidbit from last night about Si’s work that I thought was pretty cool was that he doesn’t do sketches first. He just grabs his pen and draws what is in his head. That is intriguing to me too and I wanted to try it. I went home last night and started working on a poster inspired by his talk (that I hope to finish and post soon).

My good friend, Dylan Sneed, bids his farewell to Texas at the end of August in pursuit of his personal legend. He will be moving to Hartsville, South Carolina making music and becoming even awesomer than he already is. My congratulations to Dylan as he makes this bold move. He is commemorating the move with an eastern US tour called TEXODUS. I was happy to do the poster for this event.
