Design

I went to see Si Scott do a talk last night for an AIGA New York event. He basically just showed his work and talked about it a little bit and then answered a few questions. It was funny because I think a lot of people really wanted to know where his inspiration comes from. He really didn’t have an answer other than, “I just started doing it because I liked it and then people wanted me to do it more.”  I think that is probably the most influential thing that I heard last night. It was yet another confirmation that the “DO WHAT YOU LOVE UNTIL YOU MAKE A LIVING FROM IT” system works. I first heard that from Paul Jerde several years ago and thought he was crazy at first but the more I put it into practice, the more I see that it is the way to go.

A crazy tidbit from last night about Si’s work that I thought was pretty cool was that he doesn’t do sketches first. He just grabs his pen and draws what is in his head. That is intriguing to me too and I wanted to try it. I went home last night and started working on a poster inspired by his talk (that I hope to finish and post soon).

I am excited to announce the launch of the new FROGERS.NET.

I wanted a place where I could easily put up everything that I make, whether it be client work or just experimental images. I encourage you to put me on your RSS feed and stay in touch. I plan on updating the site often. Also, I have left some room open for discussion by including comment fields. Tell me what you think. You could call this a blog I suppose but it will work as my graphic design portfolio site as well as a place to show and/or talk about anything else I am doing. Special thanks to Mark Hurd for helping me out with the coding and to Wade Griffith for this photo. I hope you enjoy the new site.
